Zarragoza - the trip to Barcelona

Next on our trip was to get to Barcelona. We had decided over the past couple of weeks that our plans to get to Portugal and back to France in time so see the Alp stages of Le Tour were a little ambitious and so we rearranged the itinerary to give us more time in Barcelona and Southern France.
To get there we decided to stop in Zaragoza – Spain’s 5th biggest city and the capital of Aragon.

Tom decides if he cant get his thrills running from bulls he will climb the bridge instead - the poof jeans he named them not us) were a little limiting though
We had our first tapas – we were beginning to think the Spanish couldn’t cook to save themselves. Phew!
After lunch we visited the Basilica del Pilar – an amazing architectural and artistic structure dripping with marble and gold statues in the main body of the cathedral and multiple chapels to the side of the main naive. Unfortunately no photos allowed inside so we were just left with the memories.

We found the Place del Caesar Augustus – a tribute to Spains Roman heritage, as well as the remains of the Roman city walls and marketplace.
I will piss on your town...

And claim it in the name of King David - bow before me!

Meanwhile we wandered a little further and discovered another leaning tower – of Zaragoza. I think i might leave the Romans to building aquaducts, towers don’t seem to have been their specialty.

We finished with a walk along the Rio Ebro river.

From here we said farewell to Tom and Bec, dropping them at the train station bound for Barcelona. Then we checked into our first camping ground – Camping Municipal Ciudad de Zaragoza where we really got to see what Mulder could do.
Behold Mulder in all of his glory!
We even managed a swim and sunbake in the pool at 8pm! A very relaxing end to the day.
