Innsbruck - more Alps of Austria

After such a fun-filled day, the day before in Salzburg we set off merrily for the alpine town of Innsbruck still in Austria. We arrived in Camping Kranebittenhof about 2 hours later and checked in soaking up the campground’s beautiful vista, nestled into the valley beneath the towering mountains.

After enjoying the sights we headed into the centre of town to see the Golden Dachl (Golden Roof) this refers to the roof eve covered with 2657 gilded copper tiles on one side of one of the central buildings built by Emperor Maximillian I in the 16th century – just to show off really.

More horrible views in the streets of Innsbruck
We head lunch some schnitzel and sausage ...
More beer!
then collected Mulder and heaed uphill past Innsbruck’s indoor winter Olympic stadium (skating, ice hockey etc) towards the bobsled track. We had hoped to have a go but tourist rides were only open Tues – Fri, and as it was a Saturday we missed out. But we did get a great view of Innsbruck and the surrounding mountains.
I'm feeling very olympic today (wrong place though)

Next it was to one of Innsbruck’s neighbouring villages Wattens to Kristallwelten (Crystal World) which sounds kinda cheesy but it was quite good. Basically it is a gallery of modern art installations by some fairly well known artists – if you’ve ever heard of Warhol or Dali. The whole place is the work of Swarovski so most of the art works either feature or is about crystals. One of our favourites was Jim Whiting’s Mechanical Theatre – a weird ensemble of fembot mannequins, dancing trousers and flying shirts.

Once we finished looking at the shiny, sparkly things it was time to hit the road again.
Another day another country – this time Switzerland’s yodel beckoned...
